Power to the people
The tiny NSW town of Barellan engaged C2Hills Consultancy to help apply for funding to realise the community dream of building an aged care facility.
The community-driven project was borne from the need for ageing farmers and other community members to have a place to be cared for in their twilight years. Elderly in Barellan in need of care faced the choice of leaving town to receive constant care. C2Hills understood the depth of emotion and need in the community to keep families in this tight-knit community close together.
Volunteers from the community formed a committee to raise funds to build aged care units. The community, testament to their incredible spirit, raised just over $194,000. C2Hills secured the remaining funding of just over $154,000, under the Australian Government’s Community Development Grants Program. C2Hills came up with a business strategy for the committee, applied for the funding and lobbied federal ministers and the local MP to ensure this vital project received attention.
The funding meant two units could begin. Four more are in the planning. C2Hills was delighted to attend the opening of the first unit in February 2018 and be acknowledged for our support.
“The Barellan Aged Care Support Group engaged with C2Hills Consultancy by way of a referral from a person within our neighbouring community. We contacted Cara regarding our need for help to realise our goal to build an aged care facility in our small town. We enjoyed a great working partnership with Cara and the C2Hills team.”
“C2Hills worked with our group of elderly volunteers to source funding and worked on a strategy to structure the business and fulfil government requirements for the facility. C2Hills negotiated between our community and government to ensure our project was realised.”
The facility was fully paid for and opened in February 2018.
“We would recommend C2Hills to anyone with a dream to support their community and deliver a challenging project.”
